Hi guys,
Just after some info regarding old imperial 7/.029 twin and earth cable. Is the cpc in it 3/.029 or 3/.36?
looking to extend a ring final circuit and have come across imperial stranded 7 strands 7/.029 and not sure if cpc is 3/.029 or 3/.036.
Unfortunately not got measuring caliper yet (ordered one) as this is the first time I have come across it and just trying to work out if it is ok to extend it.
Thanks for all help, and if I dont get to say before, Merry Xmas and happy new year to you all.
All the best

Two thoughts, 2.5 always had 1.0 cpc back in the early 80's. I am told they also made stranded 2.5 as well. Not sure of the cpc size of that.

They still do, also 1.5mm stranded we use a limited amount of it on this project, but then all our conductors are stranded...

You don't see many of the other metric sizes available in Europe as a whole, as they have standardised the cable sizes to be used. But elsewhere you can find 3mm, 5mm, 8mm, 12mm and so on and so on, all available in stranded and fine stranded form... from singles to just about any multi core cables you can think of...
Many of these cable sizes replace AWG, in countries where they still use the NEC as their national wiring code. Outside of the Americas i don't think there is a single country now that uses AWG etc, even Canada's NEC lists all cables sizes in metric these days...

USA is one of the very few countries not to adopt the SI system of units despite its obvious merits.

SI is used in the states by NASA, the army and various enginering firms...for anything important mostly.

Wish we would finish the conversion so it feels like living in the 21st centuary. The bridge was made in metric, the road was built in metric and the lorry was made metric but somebody at the end labels it up in random body parts and is surprised when somebody drives into it...

Yes. And many items are dual marked.

But Imperial is the official system of measurements.

Then's the bizarre AWG for wire:

By definition, No. 36 AWG is 0.005 inches in diameter, and No. 0000 is 0.46 inches in diameter. The ratio of these diameters is 1:92, and there are 40 gauge sizes from No. 36 to No. 0000, or 39 steps. Because each successive gauge number increases diameter by a constant multiple, diameters vary geometrically. Any two successive gauges (e.g. A & B ) have diameters in the ratio (dia. B Ă· dia. A) of

(approximately 1.12293), while for gauges two steps apart (e.g. A, B & C), the ratio of the C to A is about 1.12293² = 1.26098. The diameter of a No. n AWG wire is determined, for gauges smaller than 00 (36 to 0), according to the following formula:

gave you a thanks for that, for completely baffling me. will re-read your post after a suitable intake of old peculier.
When you're under the affluence of incohol you mean?
:)

I'm in Georgia (the USA one) at the moment and finding a decent tipple can be a challenge.
But within walking distance here, astonishing in itself, there is a tavern that has hundreds. Including Old Peculier.
