Hi Guys, I was learning with a mainly domestic firm and got made redundant 2 years ago. I have worked within the trade for 3 years prior to being made redundant and obviously keep looking and ringing, under the circumstances of the dreaded recession cannot find any work which is permanent or i can do working around my full time job as a security officer :(
I am wondering if anyone can help or has any ideas on my next step to take. I have completed my 17th edition and NVQ 2330 at level 2.
Now ideally i would like to do my last year and my inspection and testing but would rather have experience on three phase systems, inspection and testing and the industrial side before attempting to do either.
To be honest for now i would happily settle for just doing domestic as an improver.
The question im trying to ask really is what would you suggest as experts within the trade for me to progress to either working for a company, becoming self employed as a domestic and achieving the qualifications i need. Even better if anyone is recruiting in the Nottingham area or could even give me an oppurtunity to reach my goals it would be muchly appreciated.

seems a reasonable post this....
well in answer to your question...i dont know.....i think the only way forward for you is to keep asking around and keep coming in here and LOOKING at threads and posts as they come up.....

Hi and welcome to the forum. I would be inclined to keep your job and try and help someone at weekends to gain some experience. That way when this recession ends you will be in a good position to either go self employed or get employment citing what you have done. Good luck pal!

when this recession ends?..lol.....god TC....how many bins you been sleeping in?

Hi again thanks for the welcome and good wishes, it is a nightmare the problem is with my job its not an average job working 7 day rotations over 24hrs so 3 shift patterns. The only good thing to come out of shifts is a can work on days off which one week is sun/mon/tues, next week fri/sat and finally week 3 is wed/thurs!
I am pretty confident with domestic with only being taught that. In return to Glenn i havnt actually inspected and tested myself i was at the stage of being taught as i was ruthlessly made redundant after returning from holiday. Just extremely thankful to Mark the spark who trained me everything he knew domestically, after having a rough time as an apprentice which he hated he shown me everything and made it so enjoyable and interesting. Gutted im not working with him now, miss alligning the screws on the socket fronts so they all look vertical! haha Its took 8 years so far to get where i am with stints as security and a morrisons shelf filler inbetween but hopefully i will get there in the end :)

So you think it will never end? The depression (and i mean depression, not recession) of the 30's was the worst the world had ever seen, it didn't last forever. If you think negative, you will get negative, if you think positive you will get positive. If you want to slit your wrists, that's up to you but don't bring everyone else down with you!
