Just showed the picture attachments to the missus, and she was horrified that someone could get away with such shoddy workmanship. There is NO WAY that this was done by a British Sparkie. I don't want this statement to be taken as racism or anything, but in my opinion even the most slack-arse lazy bloke wouldn't do this. However I'm sure that there are plenty of Testers out there who will want to prove me wrong.

This bit made me smile......

I started talking to him about the extent of the work that was required;

(Him) "But it's been tripping for the last 2 weeks and tonight it wont stay on longer than 30 seconds"

(Me) "Yes but you only called me 15 minutes ago!!!"

(Him) "well it needs to be done straight away, tonight, the smell of burning is putting my customers off"

I had to wipe the tear from my eye with laughter.

(Me) "Sorry mate, there's nothing I can do for you tonight"

with this the RCD finally gives up the ghost and wont reset...

(Him) "OK then, you'll have to do it first thing in the morning"

(Me) "No can do fella....I'm all booked up, I'll look in my diary to see when I can fit you in"

(Him) "Then I'll have to get my friend who's an electrician to do it instead then"

(Me) "Would this be the same friend that did the last bit of work for you??? I think your right, maybe you should get your mate to do it. Give him a call now, maybe he can bypass this grey plastic thing that keeps tripping all the time, then your all sorted"

Fired up the quattro and got the hell out there!!!!

Walk away or run as fast as you can

And thats about the best advice going. Your on a hiding to nothing,
To put that mess right is going to cost money, and thats where your problems will start and end.
Have worn the Indian take away T shirt. Once bit twice shy.
Run Forrest Run.
Let there electrical mate brother in law sort it. The one whe will do it for half of what ever your going to charge

I'm afraid they have no concept of western standards what-so-ever. When it comes to electrics, it's something you nick off the overhead lines outside!!...lol!! In short they don't care, except when it interferes with there money income, and even then, if a bit of tape can sort it, ....then that is exactly what they will use. No matter what you do, or how little you charge, they will want a discount!! lol!!!

I've had the same issues with an Indian takeaway - but with gas.

I did an inspection & found when I did the Gas Tightness test (like the electric IR test) there was a leak somewhere.

I traced it to 2 of the flexi-hoses to the range & Tandoori Oven. The owner couldn't see the problem as the range & oven were both working fine !!

oh yes your right there so i added 15% and knocked off 10% they thought they had a bargin lol

It's the only way to deal with them.

The thing that amazes me is how while you're doing the job they speak & understand English perfectly, but when the job's done & it's time to present them with the invoice they suddenly no speaky English !!

What is amazing, we have to do risk assements, method statements, have ECS and all the PPE equipment known to man before you can step foot on a site, but shops and restaurants in particular have this mess. What are all these enviromental officers that we pay for do?........OK electrcs might not be their bag, but surely they have eyes and see this and say ..........hmmm may not be an engineer but I think I should get H&S involved here.
