Inspection camera

Does anyone here have an inspection camera? i've looked into them for a little while but not made any decision. Also does anyone have the type that plug into your phone. seems quite handy?

better models where you have a joystick to control the head are nice but expensive. i have a cheapo one and dont find it that useful. places where you stick it will be dark dusty and full of crap, good to have a good resolution to see anything.
inspection mirror on a end of cable rod + powerful torch is more useful for me.

I brought one from aldi. Got to say iv used it for several things, and well worth it. Not remote or anything but does the job.

Useful sometimes but hard to tell what its looking at,once thought bits of cobweb were a burnt cable.

I have been waiting for prices to drop and the resolution to improve on these things. I quite often take photos with my old smartphone to see what lurks beneath!

i've been using my phone like this too but i needed to replace my old one and this new one no longer fits up 64mm downlight holes, thats definitely getting taken into consideration next time.

I bought an ebay one (Hong Kong) about £50 wi-fi to phone. I have yet to find an application where it's better than a torch and a mirror. I always thought I needed one, but I'm not so sure any more.

It's surprising how a nice clear image when you are in the living room converts to a dim and low resolution one when you shove the end down a dark hole. & telling which way is "UP" is half the battle.

I keep it in the van in the hope that one day it'll save my bacon. Still waiting for the day.

Agree with all so far ... if cheap, an interesting 'toy' ... I invested in a wi-fi one to link to iPhone and iPad! It requires significant levels of practice and interpretation to be able to identify what you are looking at and where you are looking. The most interesting pictures that I have obtained are out of focus digital photos of my "surfers' ear", bony growths into the ear canal caused by too many 'dunkings' in cold water! The other use is as a visual 'probing rod' to work out how far away things are that are out of sight ... like an 'all seeing' tape measure. In order to get anything really useful, I think that the price is probably prohibitive for most!

I used to kayak surf a long time ago, but I never thought of shoving the camera down my ear.
