Installing down lights .

Seems to me, everyone has a different view on what is and what isn't notifiable!! lol!!

Seems that this Part Pee clap needs to be rewritten in plain English so that everyone KNOWS what's required!! :willy_nilly:

the way i see it is the di's quote part p and you cant do anything without it you need us etc,the old sparks say **** that its my house..

i stand corrected. just looked at the part pee bumf. work in kitchens (except like for like, and repairs) is notifiable. bugger, that means i've bent the rules a time or two. don't think i'll be losing any sleep over it though. nothing has burnt down, nobody's been injured, no cables have been run outside of safe zones, and strangely enough, i've been lucky to have had plasterers, kitchen fitters, and even plumbers, that have a clue what and where cables are.

Although no longer a special location according to wiring regs building control still require notification as works in kitchens can often be quite major

Scaremongery more like!! Kitchens have been around a dam sight longer than the cover all RCDs. lol!!

kitchens have been around a damn sight longer than LABCs as well. and no amount of notification will prevent the lights getting gunged up with chip fat.

Thats why im pricing for sealed , fire rated fittings .

Thanks for the replies so far .

The thing thats getting me confused is the RCD protection . Im not going in any walls with the new wiring so do i still need to RCD the lighting circuit ? I know its good practice to RCD the lighting circuit but is it necessary .

If you're not installing any cables in the walls, then no you don't have to provide RCD protection.
