Good day to you.
I want to use a large walk-in closet as an office space. There is a light switch in the closet that I would like to replace with an outlet and switch combo. There is no ground inside the box. There is a capped neutral. The breaker is 20 amps.

To protect my devices (computer, monitors), should I use a GFI? Do the GFIs need to be grounded to function?
Or should I just get a non GFI outlet?

I've read a few blogs but the difference of opinion and jargon is confusing.

Forgive my lack of proper terminology.
I do have minimal experience assisting an electrician installing outlets.

Jon it’s never a bad thing to install a GFCI receptacle. Yes it will still function without the ground. Good luck with your project
