I may have to look at the cost for a mcs firm to help. If not it will still save them a bit of money off there electric bill due to them been at home all day.cheers for advice

I may look into getting a mcs firm to help but i think I will install a solar switch and use any spare electric to heat the hot water. Thanks for all advice you have given me.

Tommo, are you sure you're not getting confused about the FIT? I could be wrong but it sounds like you're under the impression that the FIT is paid on exported electricity.

This isn't the case. The FIT is paid on ALL generated power. Therefore you will still get paid the subsidy even if you use all of the electricity in the house and export none.

Hi I understand how it works and what is paid and at different rates. I was goin to get mcs accredited myself when I did the pv course but didn't in the end. My plan is to fit panels and then over time install a battery unit maybe the midnight sun.

Solarcity made a good point there but just to add you also get deemed 50% of export also, whether you export it all or use it all.
Also, unless you can claim the VAT back, you will be chatged 20% but an MCS company only charges VAT @ 5%.

Added; sorry, it looks like you posted before me.

Just to add to what the others are saying - you'll probably recoup what it costs you to work with an MCS installer in 1 -2 years depending on system size/installer. I'm not sure you're doing your Mum & Dad a great service installing without Fit. It'll be a great learning curve for you too. I wish we could have worked alongside another installer when we did our first installation. 18 years of fit will soon start to pay for batteries to backup, win, win all round really :)
