More of a 'sound off' than a question here.

I put my 8 month old Wera torque screwdriver in for calibration a week ago. Three days ago the company I had put it with phoned to say it was faulty and implied it was beyond repair. When I got it back I discovered they had broken the blade release ring (this was most certainly not broken when I handed it in to them, and indeed they signed for it without noting any faults).

To add insult to injury, they wanted paying for it's return! I grabbed it from them and told them I would make them pay for the damage. They said they'd get the police involved if I took it off the premises without paying! I'm looking forward to that! When they have committed criminal damage and attempted extortion!

I'd like to name the company concerned (a multi-million pound business), but suspect it would be moderated (any comments on this from the moderators?)

As an aside, the small, friendly, helpful firm who calibrate my MFT each year said they haven't invested in the equipment to calibrate torque screwdrivers as they only see one other besides mine! Which rather suggests I am in a minority having one!

Why not return it to where you got it from as faulty, and get a brand new one as a replacement under warranty?

Bit too conscientious for that lol! But no offense. I have sent it back to Wera, who I hope can repair it, but they have told me there will not be a charge if it's not worth repairing. If it is repairable I will be invoicing the company who broke it for the cost.

A lot of people in the motor trade give all their stuff (ÂŁÂŁÂŁ) to the Snap-On guy :).

I have been a customer for 40 years, and have spent plenty in those vans of dreams...

I have tools i got given as a ten year old, that still find use today, but the majority of their kit is excellent, their warranty has never failed me....and my kit has put plenty of wool on my back :icon12:

A quick update: Wera confirmed the screwdriver was beyond repair. They have put this in writing to help my case against Sc*tia. They have also sold me a replacement, for less-than retail price, which I have received. Next step is to invoice Sc*tia.

Good luck with that! Keep us informed of the outcome, just out of interest, how much were they going to charge you for the calibration?

Bearing in mind the amount of people who read these posts you may just sneak a bit of consideration to promote their customer service lol. You may want to drop them a hint.

A rather belated update: They are still insisting it was already broken. I will probably leave some negative feedback about them at some point and then cut my losses. After all, the replacement didn't cost that much more than the calibration would have!

Thanks again for all the support!
