Just wanted to check what min acceptable reading would be when testing a 230v circuit at 250V as opposed to 500V

>0.5 or 1.0> ???

Many Thanks,

Sy

this is not for SELV / PELV.... for when you can't do a 500V test on a 230v circuit and use 250V instead ?

Is it the same acceptable reding as selv and pelv then ?

cheers Sy

Dont think so, I think you would still need to have at least 1Mohm, maybe one of the other lads can confirm this.

Cheers

Matt

SELV & PELV circuits must have a minimum insulation resistance of 0.5 Meg ohms when tested at 250V dc. with all current using equipment disconnected. 612.3.2

Circuits up to 500V must have a minimum insulation resistance of 1.0 Meg ohms when tested at 500V dc with all current using equipment disconnected. 612.3.2

Why are you testing a 230V circuit at 250V?

If the circuit contains devices that may be damaged by the test, only a test between the live conductors connected together and the cpc connected to earth is necessary. 612.3.3

So why would you test at 250v I remember it coming up at college a few months ago but cannot remember the reason why you would test at 250v.

So with vulerable equipment it's ok to test at 500v live condutors together and cpc... for some reason I always thought it was a 250v test when there was vulerable equipment..?

if line and neutrtal are connected together, there is no potential difference between the two and currnt cannot flow therfore, so no damage can be caused to connected units.it is a limited test so this has to be recorded on the certificate as a limited test. if the limited test also provides a poor result, then further invstigtion is necessary.
