does anyone know anything about the internal wring of trains my mate(not a spark) can get a start with his company but i dont want to turn and find out i am way out my depth

I'd be honest with them, but I would have thought any decent spark could get their head round it. Assuming they not just going to dump you in a train and leave you to it.

Can only be repairs, most maintainance depots ive been in are mostly mechanical, and large electric motor sub frames. Most trains are made abroad.

I would guess the larger 'train' companies such as Siemens, GEC Alstom & Bombadier all provide consise wiring diagrams so if you are comfortable reading those both electrical & electronic you should be OK. There are usually several open days at the major refurb sites in the summer if you need to pay a visit & see what its all about.

There’s no point worrying about drawings or anything like that. You won’t be allowed near anything you haven’t been trained on.
