Hi All,

After years working as a Personal Trainer I decided that it was not for me anymore. As like quite a few people I've seen on this forum, I'm also looking for a career change. I'm 33 years old, always liked to do hands on work and would like to start my level 2 ASAP . I have a few questions and would appreciate some feedback.

1 - Is there a difference between the EAL Level 2 in electrical installation and the C&G 2365 diploma in electrical installation level 2?

2 - Does anyone know a College in London that offers the above courses part-time (so I can still work) and take students in January or February 2018? All the Colleges in London that I've seen start only in September next year. Ideally I'd like to start ASAP.

I know that there are training centers that provide these courses, but I've read on this forum that these intense courses route are not the way to go, as there is too much to cover in a short period of time, so I'm a bit concerned to pay lots of money for a course that will not properly prepare me for work as a trainee electrician afterwards or during the course.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

City and guilds is probably more widely acknowledged so I'd go down that route if possible.
Can you not see if you can get yourself an adult apprenticeship or traineeship, the company i work for has recently taken on a 33 year old. She's under my watch even though I'm 5 years her junior,
One thing those intensive courses can't offer you is experience, maybe you could get some experience as a sparkies mate and work your way up from there,
Good luck with your quest
Lou

Hi Lou,

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
You're right, the apprenticeship/traineeship sounds like it is the best way to get real work experience. It's good to hear there are oportunities out there for oldies like myself.:D

Was she doing the course already when she applied for the traineeship?

I've been thinking of doing the the C&G level 2 distance learning just to get my self started and then start contacting companies about the traineeship.

Thanks again

Welcome,

How are you getting on with finding out what you need?

Thanks for welcoming me,

It's going good, I'm actually getting a lot of usefull information from previous threads on this forum. I'll try to go down the distance learning route at least for the C&G 2365 level 2, then start applying for traineeship and see how it goes.

Thanks again
