Could someone please get their finger out and invent an earth sleeving dispenser that works like a small tape measure - you pull out the length of sleeving you want and press the button to cut it?

I'm a bit busy at the moment ......:D

But it would be good wouldn't it?!

Yes would be handy, but best use of a hank of earth sleeving apart from what it is intended for is as a cushion for your left elbow when working at floor level, a supplementary knee pad,and as something to poke down holes when trying to find the other side of the exploratory hole you just put in someones floor/ ceiling. Any more uses for earth sleeving ?

I love earth sleeving, i never have a problem finding the end cos its got about 20, wish i could say the same about sellotape.:D

Just waiting for someone to put up a post

"What is earth sleeving"

from my experience there must be loads of people that dont know what it is or what it is used for.

two cable ties in the middle, Then just cut through the hank on the other side, and there you have loads of lengths, a knee pad, an elbow pad, and as the hank gets loose, just tighten up the cable ties. Old system was to tie the middle with a bit of the sleeving itself, but of course being human the ends were far to inviting when you only wanted a bit and couldnt find the end of the actually hank, so eventually it all fell loose, the ends having been cut to nothing, and of course, loads of ends where you had cut a bit out of the middle.
It is great knowingeveryone on here is also human !! In reality, its not a subject thats important enough to warrant time spent on it, but what a breath of fresh air !! I found the drums from CEF to have gone hard towards the end of the drum, very non pliable ? for the cost involved obviously its not worth winging about but wonder if any one had the same ?

Wonder if one of the cable companies started making cable with insulation on the CPC if it would take off. Might be a tiny bit more expensive but a lot less hassle. Is there any reason other than cost that manufacturers don't insulate the earth conductor? There wouldn't be any significant increase in cable diameter as the earth insulation may as well be as thin as the sleeving in use today.

In Germany they use stuff like Hi-Tuff but with grey insulation and a it's a little bit more pliable, it has a completely insulated CPC in green and yellow, great stuff would love to use it in the UK.

Once upon a time i was caught short with cable and had to visit local big chain DIY warehouse for emergency supply. Found my cable, measured out my needs and coiled up nice and neat.
Tied up the the coil with a few inches of earth sleeving of the roll which was next to the one i had just cut from, and off to the till i go..

Yep, you guessed,
8 pound odd for the cable
plus 54 pence for 5 inches of earth sleeve.. !!!!!!!
