Hi guys got a little problem working in a remote portakabin and putting up 3 bulkhead fittings max load 120 w bought a brand new 12 v leisure battery which is used to power the inverter 12 v input 600 w output only thing there's 170 v on output swapped inverters and same again? Maybe it's something daft any ideas????

are u sure the input is only12 volts? normally its 24v

Plenty of 12V inverters on the market ayjay. What current are you drawing from the battery when the inverter is loaded?
Also, 120W at 12VDC is around 10 amps - have you got a good battery, because that's a reasonably high drain? Daz

Yes Daz cheers for reply batt fully charged 12.6 volts I hear you regarding the drain upgraded the 12 v cabling from batt to inverter but not full mains coming off inverter I've disconnected load still not mains voltage on outlet socket I'm stumped!!!!

the output from cheap inverters is not a true sine wave. this may fool your digital meter into giving a false reading. try an analogue meter.

Thanks for that ill try with the analogue but even if the sine wave is affecting the digital there isn't full mains at the light? I've just done another test on batt terminals 12.5 v with inverter turned off soon as I turn on with no loads connected the batt is fluctuating do the transistors take quite a bit of juice??

Connect the inverter to your car battery and try it with the engine running. If still same then I would say faulty inverter. daz

some inverters dont give out power until it realizes there's a load connected. my one wont turn on the 230v output until it senses a current trying to be drawn from it

do the lights not work then ?
