IR Testing.

On a two way lighting circuit ( wired in singles) how many times do you have to test to include the strappers?
Is it as simple as Switch One and then Switch two? (so two tests)
Or
Sw one, Sw two,Sw one again and the Sw two again.
If the latter is correct, that is four tests?
Or am I missing something?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I tend to turn lights on then isolate at cu then perform 1st test.
Then switch both switches so lights would be in on position again and then retest. So the answer would be twice.

You only have to switch one of your two-ways once to test the other strapper - that is 'per test'

In other words test L-E, throw switch, test L-E again. Test L-N, throw switch, test L-N again.

You don't have to throw switch during N-E test

Intermediates don't need to be switched, so a total of 5 tests

No probs, Gerry.

As an additional thought, some wouldn't bother switching during the L-N test either (just L-E) - if the circuit was wired in T&E - as there wouldn't normally be a neutral in the vicinity of your strappers, but as you said it was wired in singles, then the strappers and neutral could be run together (e.g. in conduit), so best to throw switch and test again during L-N as well.

It's only one extra test, after all.
