I know you are not supposed to do a insulation test on circuits that are protected by an RCD at 500v because it may damage the electronic components inside the RCD so that's why you switch the RCD off before you test the individual circuits, however, what if the circuits are all protected by RCBO's, in this case are the electronic components in the RCBO somehow designed differently so it can be tested at 500v and not get even slightly damaged or do you just do the insulation test at 250v instead?

Thanks.

Some RCBO's will let you do insulation testing at the out going terminals, fairly sure the new compact Hager ones do! Best to refer to MI if in any doubt.
Tbh I usually disconnect them for testing.

They do and have a note on them to that effect. I still take the conductors out though.
