I have recently fitted a Wireless alarm system for a friend. Its not hard wired to the mains its just got a plug in transformer that plugs into a socket outlet.

He wants the alarm unit itself just above a small cudbard where the consumer unit is. unfortunately there is no socket outlet near by (and personelly I think it would look naff anyway to have it plugged into a socket outlet.) I dont want to start chasing out his recently decorated walls to spare off a socket outlet. So is it ok to add a socket outlet into the existing ring in the enclosed cudbard where the consumer unit is and have the plug in transformer within the same cudbard as the consumer unit? I am aware this prob isn't best practice but would it be against the regs or of any danger?

PS. The plug in tranformer doesnt get hot.

Yes thats fine

Next to the consumer unit is probably the easiest place you could put an extra socket - you could extend a ring final or just spur straight out of the cu.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was going to add to the ring final, I didn't realise it was ok to just spur out of the CU. so would I literally just spur out of the MCB then?
