Hi,

I am thinking to do some PAT test. A friend is good at that. I believe i can persuade him to show me how to do it. But do i need to pass the c&g 2377 to be qualified, or just do it with the open book exam?

cheers

Agreed but its the usual scam sorry I mean scheme thats why we have a seperate city and guilds exam that if you can read you cant fail:rolleyes: but its another means of getting money out of us.

I should know Ive got an honours degree in sticker sticking:eek:

I dont think an average sparks knows enough about PAT testing to be competant in it..

When I took the 2377-12 course the tutor pointed out that you do "not need to be a Qualified Electrician or have a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering" to conduct 'PAT testing'. The requirement is competence.

He further pointed out that Electricians do not learn about PAT testing as part of their training.

That said, if a Qualified Electrician were to familiarise themselves with the IEE Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment then I can't foresee any major problem. As I said, I took the 'PAT' course more for my own interest.
