Naive Belief

Hi all

i am thinking of doing a 2394/5 course. The problem is I talked to a friend and he said he had been told that the 2395 was too difficult and has a 94% fail rate. And because of this they are going to make the exams easier so I should hold off doing it. Has anyone else heard these rumours? Should I just go for it or am I wasting money.

thank you for any advice.

Personally I think it should be easier than the old 2391 course. I have this qualification and considered it hard, but the 2394/5 is split in half, so it should be easier to understand and go more in depth.

Depends on what experience you have. The practicals are OK if you work safely, and can identify non conformance's.

As with the 2391, the 2394 written exam is closed book, so you need to know GN3 inside and out. The exam has a high failure rate due to people not answering the question as it is asked, and using the wrong terminology. If you revise GN3 and use the correct terminology, and read the questions properly, you will be fine. The 2931 exam success book will show you how to structure and answer questions. The 2394 book isnt available yet, so if you get the 2391 book, just be aware that some of the old 17th terminology has been changed, but 90+ % of it is still relevant.

Cheers...........Howard

You can see the pass (and thus fail) rates for the 2395 written papers by downloading the examiners report for each from the C&G site. For example, Dec 2012 pass rate was 24%, Oct 2012 pass rate was 43%, Aug 2012 was 27% (it does seem to vary quite a lot).

Update: Just downloaded a more recent report, Feb 2013 pass rate was 34%, April 2013 was 41%, and June 2013 was 43%.

did the 2394/2395 in April , just got my results last week, all passed. thought i had failed the 2394 written. i only just got a proper electrician job a month ago. speaking to others coming out of the exam and they had wrote down wrong answers , i think a lot of my group failed

Get the book by chris kitcher , Practical guide to inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations, Very good book and specifically for 2394/5

These threads always put a bit of a smile on. What's the point of having a trade/professional qualification that Everyone Passes?? We enough of them as it is, in the industry, for example the open book 17th and PAT C&G That i think every 17 day/electrical trainee in the country possesses!!

You tend to pass important MEANINGFUL trade course exams by putting the effort and study time in, those that don't, tend to fail. So it seems there are always more, that are not putting that time and effort in!! lol!!

These exams (2391 and 2395) are like a right of passage for sparks. Not easy to pass but a very meaningful and worthwhile piece of paper for those that do. C&G have kept the standard high for this reason, to keep it meaningful! However i did the 2391 and passed but there were better sparks than me on the course failing because they didnt learn gn3 off by heart. I reakon you need a couple of months self study to properly learn gn3 to the required standard rather than just hoping to absorb enough info on the relatively few days spent in college to get you through...
