Ive followed 2 previous electricians into a property, they have had to cover me whilst my passes are sorted out and so I am doing what they were doing for the time being.

What I am concerned about is this. Theres a kitched ring and on the last double socket of that circuit is another piece of cable which is either 1mm or 1.5mm sq which runs up to where an expeeair extracto fan is going to be fitted. I could have just wired it uptoday but I wasnt sure if you could do that. Im sure ive read on here that this is not a good idea but Im probably wrong. either way I just wanted to check and seeing as this place is full of electricians I thought it was a good palce to ask such a thing.

This is exactly why Mr M Gove is looking at the schools. its exactly the same reeason. Loads of lazy good for nothing teachers being paid £30000 a year for 7 months work, picking easy exam papers and signing off these poor sods as qualified.

To be honest guys, i am surprised Lofty has a job but at least he has and isnt sponging off the social. i wouldnt want to be his boss but if i were i would be putting him with a qualified sparks or he'd be with me so at least i could keep an eye on things. his boss has got to have a death wish.

Minimum of 1.5mm2 if your feeding a FCU, check cable size against the sample pieces of cable you keep in your tool kit. Make sure you fit correct fuse in FCU for rating of fan, if not known then dont fit one!

reading between the lines, it seems lofty's a trainee/apprentice whose employers are trying to make him run before he can walk. if that's the case, give the guy a break, lads.

maybe, but in that case, he needs to blow something and probably himself up as fast as possible, his boss gets the sack for being a turd, industry learns from it and this nonsense stops.

Guys Ive drawn out what it is im trying to say.

I didnt wire this up I have just been put on the job to do the second fix. this is the least of my worries I have much more urgent questions that I could really do with help with and im going to post them up after this. I will no doubt take a pasting but I dont really have anyone else to ask or turn to so I dont really no what to do. I dont want to loose this job ive sort of landed on my feet after years of no luck.








what Im trying to say is that to me the back box which is double socket size has two 2.5 mm T&E cables coming into it to complete the ring the one on the left is going back to the board and the one on the right feeds into the switched fused spur which is protecting the single socket for a dishwasher below. my concern is the cable which is running up the wall to the place where the extractor fan is going to be fixed as its either a 1mm or 1.5mm cable. I just want to know if thats ok as I was going to 2nd fix a double socket onto the backbox and then wire this 1mm/1.5mm cable into the L,N and E terminals. It just didnt look right to me. i never wired it up all im doing is the second fix. I just thought it would be wise to see what people on here thought. i dint expect everyone to go mad at me. i was just concerned I was doing somethign that wasnt right I dont know why its not ok if its not allowed but i can look into that over the weekend, for now I just want to keep my job.

Lofty is this is real I do feel a bit sorry for you. Have you told these people you are qualified? Why don't you just tell them our not sure of how to do it?

Unfortunately it couldn't be done in 17 days or even 5 weeks so the idea would fail at the first couple of hurdles. Very few want proper training and the timescale it requires to complete they want the certification now and trading as "qualified" in 3 months and earning 50k a year

ok a ring final circuit is proteced by a 32 amp type B breaker

A switched fused spur is used as a means of local isolation and to down fuse if coming of a ring final circuit

I know V=I/R and dont want to cheat so will just admitt i dont know how much current 1.5 can take

Well Its a fairly well paid job and I dont want to loose it I know some things just not others, im a quick learner and once I know something I wont forget thats why i asked about the imersion heater as I had never done one before now I know (although I havent done it yet) I wont forget and will be able to pass on that information if I get the chance

Lofty as quoted, answer these first.

Secondly, don't wire the fan tomorrow like you were going to, it needs a point of isolation before the fan.

Ask someone on site what's happening with the fan and if they say wire it straight in, refuse.
