Is this connection safe? Oven power cable connected to electricity mains cable behind oven, sealed with electric tape.

No can you show a picture?

That most definitely is not safe, looks like it has been like that for a while. Where does the white cable which the cooker is joint to come from?

The element in the electric oven blew. The Hotpoint engineer pointed this cable out. He said that it might be the cause as to why the element blew. It doesn't look right to me. I can't imagine an electrician leaving a job like this.
 
Sadly I can believe an 'Electrician' would do this. I have seen such too often.

Thanks Tom. When I asked the Hotpoint engineer what sort of electrician would leave it like that he said " No electrician but a builder...and a cowboy one"
 
It isn't the reason the element failed. Can you show where the other cable comes from the wall?
