Afternoon people,

to keep it short and sweet, I've been offered some work via a letting agent and I presume I have to be cis/self employed for payment, the problem is I'm paye and my firm won't allow me to work on weekends privately as its stipulated in my contract,
my question is can I register as cis just for my privates and stay paye for my Normal 9-5 or will it show up on my payroll and will my company find out?

Im clueless with anything to do with tax!

Tommy

work for letting agents is not classed as construction industry and so you don't need to be cis. just keep a record of income and expenses for the taxman. invoice the letting agent for each job. don't let your boss find out.

The biggest problem with carrying out work outside of your main job is that you may end up in breach of the working time directive. Most firms will allow you to carry out "work on the side", provided you sign a form to "opt out". You will obviously need to fill in a tax return each year if you go down this route to declare all your income, and to be honest I wouldn't try to keep it from my firm if it could result in disciplinary action.
I know that this isn't what you want to hear, but be careful if your job is important to you.

Are u registered , have you got your own public liability etc ? don't forget its letting work your being asked to do if owt goes wrong matey , lots more things come into play here not just your employers limited duties but yours as a stand alone contractor well .

Lol yes mate got all the insurance from when I was self employed a few years back i didnt see the point to cancel for the sake of £100 a year and will register with another scam once I get everything sorted, the only thing I was concerned with was the whole tax situation, I know they can be a nightmare at times but a lot of very local work :)

Read you’re T&C’s.
Going back a few years I worked for a major multi national that stipulated I couldn’t work in a similar business. I ran two companies in my spare time and even worked for some of the company’s higher management. Payroll never batted an eyelid when my tax rate jumped two bands in a year.
Just be sensible, the company comes first. NOT you’re sideline.

My company employs about 12000 people worldwide so I'm hoping no one notices but ill have to dig it out tomorrow but like you said for the sake of a bit of extra beer money I don't want to loose my bread and butter the mrs will have to make do lol!

IS THIS POSSIBLE?
i work full time for a company who dont bother if i work the weekends or do my own work out of hours , could i start up my own business and carry on working paye , do my own business at nyts and weekends and carry on as normal at work , as like the other guy i have had offers for a fair bit of work but not enough to let me pack my full time job in .

Snowhead......

I get paid a salary no overtime, no weekends nights etc, the pros outweigh the cons but I would like to supplement my wage each month with some extra money. A house deposit is a must by Xmas and trying to live round my way is a joke!
