Basically I've been given an assignment on safe isolation procedures and I'm having a bit of trouble with two of the questions, I have put under the questions what I've thought of so far so any help would be much appreciated

1. State the implications of NOT carrying out safe isolation procedures to the following...
a) Yourself
- put yourself and others around you at risk ..COVERED IN NEXT PART
- liable for prosecution
b) other personnel
- can accidentally put them selfs and other people in the area at risk
c) customers/clients
POSSIBILITY OF PROSECUTION IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG, POTENTIAL LOSS OF PRODUCTION / INCOME GOODWILL.
d) public
- can accidentally put them selfs and others at risk without knowing
e) building services
POTENTIALLY CAUSE DAMAGE TO OTHER PARTS OF THE INSTALLATION

2. State one implication of safe isolation procedures to the following
a) other personnel working within the building
- could be without power whilst isolated
b) customer/clients
COULD LOOSE ACCESS TO PART OR ALL OF BUILDING AND OR EQUIPMENT
c) Members of the public
COULD LOOSE ACCESS TO PART OR ALL OF BUILDING
d) Building services which require electrical supply
COULD LOOSE USE OF LIFTS, ESCALATORS, HEATING, COOLING AND DRAINAGE.
- could be without tools and equipment which may stop work while the isolation is in place SEE ABOVE

To be perfectly honest I get the idea of the question and know how to answer it however get a little stuck on a few such as 1. E 2. B etc...

There's a few

In simple terms, if you isolate, this is good for safety from electrocution and less risk if you make a mistake and blow up something bigger further upstream.

if you dont isolate, you present a risk to you and anybody around who may come into contact with the live equipment you or others are working on. To isolate may involve removing power from other services that are not directly affected by your work, from a building services pov this could be fire alarms, burgler alarms and the like.
Will let you fill in how it applies to each affected party.
Good luck !

Go to Electrical Saftey Council web site and have a gander at the guidance note regarding safe isolation, it's free to down load
