Isolator for cu

Is it just napit that take a strict view on having isolator in place before changing cu.the reason I ask is the last 2 jobs I've requested the customer to organise a 100 amp dp isolator to be fitted before cu change the first guy [when I was actually on site ] was far from happy and remarked "do you sparkys nae know how to pull your own f##g fuses"
Second one when I wasn't there I marked where I wanted but he remarked to the main contractor "you know you don't really need an isolator"to which he replied but is it not illegal to cut and pull the main fuse to which he replied well it is and it isn't.
The next isolator I'm having to pay myself any recommendations that don't cost 175quid for 15mins work,will my energy company fit it for free

It's for my own house.ive always left the arrangements to customer and sometimes they get isolator fitted for free depending what stage of install .when I was employed doing 100s if not 1000s of consumer unit upgrades we were permitted by sse to pull the fuse ourselves and fit a paper seal [25 addresses max per issue of seals]this was a council contract and forms had to be filled out with temp seal numbers etc.im guessing my boss had some sort of risk assessment in place and deemed us competent to sse .tails were blocked metre terminations were prohibited

Was with Eon and requested an Isolator but was told main fuses probably contained Asbestos so it couldn't be done by that team. Was supposed to be done by an Asbestos team but for whatever reason despite several efforts they took ages and by that I mean months to arrange a visit.

To speed things up I got Power Networks to to put in a new Service Head which they did and the guys who did it were brilliant! Rang up Eon to say the service head was now new so should be no issue to fit the isolator and they wanted proof the Asbestos had been removed!!

I was so angry about that I changed supplier to British Gas and it was a very seem less process to get the isolator with them! and at no additional cost to boot, Eon wanted £95 I think from memory.

Even though its a linked detached house barrets we're to lazy to dig up next door neighbours drive so there split con is routed from my service head thru my foundation ,its not even clipped goes through creep holes and has multiple kinks and coils on it.and I tell a lie its a bs88 /2,1967,60 amp

Napit pulling me up on it .I believe that sse will allow you to pull fuse if your competent and come back and re seal .I would still stick in a proteus isolator .in

Because they don't like you pulling cut outs due to health and safety ,proper ppe and apparently there stance is "electricians are currently unable to do this and must contact dno"

If it was me, I'd pull the fuse then fit an isolator between meter and CU. Then tell Napit that's how I found it. And charge the customer a fair price for it.

Yeh I'm tempted to by that flag seals from ebad but it's a give away when there's no crimped number on it.ive pulled almost a thousand fuses and never had an issue .they don't even ware welders masks and all that ppe there supposed to ,plus there's smart metre changers that go on a 3 week course and that makes them more compedant than me when there last job was in a supermarket. Not that I'm demeening supermarket staff I sometimes think of becoming one my self ,surely less hassle

It was just days to arrange it with British Gas. The months bit was with Eon because of the Asbestos. Apparently they have an Asbestos team whatever that is but I imagine they had a backlog of work and so it took longer though that was further complicated by the original Engineer not following up the process to book the Asbestos team.

I don't see how anyone could prove it was you. 'It was already like that when I started the job'.
