hi there,

I'm replacing my kitchen and removing a freestanding electric oven/hob for a gas hob and an electric oven.

The freestanding unit is on it's own line from the mains on a 32A fuse covered by an isolator in the kitchen.

Can I put a plug socket onto the oven line and put the hob ignition on it (it only needs a 1A)?
This way the oven isolator would also protect the ignition.

The other alternative is to extend the kitchen loop for the ignition - but then I would have to add my own isolator and that seems a bit overkill.

What do you think?

Kind regards,

John

This way the oven isolator would also protect the ignition. If your going to fit the new oven to this circuit, does the manufacturers instructions ask for a dedicated circuit ?

When you say "kitchen loop" is this for the existing socket circuits? Why do you need an isolator on the ignition unit, they are normally either internal battery powered or they plug into a normal 13amp socket which will be your isolator.

As above but there are other things to consider here.

1 Do you have RCD protection and does the new unit call for RCD protection.
2 Do you live in England or Wales and therefore subject to Part P of the regulations.
