Hi,

I have 6 spotlights in my bathroom, when I moved into the house 4 years ago I replaced all 6 with LEDs but they wouldn't work, turns out I could only get the lights to stay on if 2 Halogen bulbs remained (1 on each end of the bathroom). Recently one of the 2 Halogen bulbs has died and now none of the lights come on. When you turn them on the LEDs all flicker once then stay off. My Halogen bulbs were 20W and the LEDs are 3W-25W. Is there a maximum load for all six that i'm going over when using 6 LEDs or something? I'm a complete novice when it comes to electrical matters.

I would just try 20W equivalent LEDs but I can't find them in shops.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You probably need to replace the halogen style transformer, for an LED driver.
Again excuse my lack of knowledge but would all the lights in the bathroom connect to a single transformer or do I need to replace two transformers for the two spotlights that had halogen bulbs in?

i would replace all bulbs/fittings with 240V, either GU10 or integrated fittings and bin the transformers. I cover Stoke, so could easily give you a quote.

Most smps require a minimum load to function correctily,
if you try a load smaller than that, it may or may not work,
i suggest your load on your smps is too small
try changing your smps for one designed for the smaller load.

i recently bought a pack of 12V MR16 LED lamps that are happy running from the existing halogen transformers, bench testing showed no signs of flicker. not yet tried to see if they are dimmable though.
