Hello all,
I'm a mere PAT tester and access this forum alot as I learn so much from it. I wanted to ask about like-for-like socket changes and issuing MWCs. I test fixed appliances also so I understand the correct isolation procedure. I often find damaged sockets and fused spurs and I'd like to start changing them for customers. It often frustrates people that they need to call an electrician out to change a couple. My question is, am I allowed to change these myself (I 'think' the answer is yes as long as there are no alterations to the wiring) and as someone who is not a qualified electrician, can I, and should I, provide a MWC?
Thank you everyone.

Like for like replacement, if you are competent then go ahead change it and issue minor works cert.
just check your insurance covers you for the works you are doing.

Like for like should not be a problem, but as above you really should test them. If you don't have a MFT then at the very least a decent socket tester that gives some indication of Zs being sane and has a facility to check-trip the RCD. For example:

MFT is obviously better due to accurate Zs, but for existing circuits that ought to be properly designed and tested originally then a check you don't have missing/hopeless CPC and no reversed polarity would be my idea of meeting minimum testing requirements.

In all cases, a little knowledge of earthing systems would be beneficial to give a context for whatever Zs reading is obtained (whether by MFT or more advanced socket tester)
John Ward has some very good YouTube videos.
