Posted a few week s back about my sds drill batteries failing and ways to fix them. Dropped them off at the local hire shop who are Makita dealer and they tested them and confirmed they are shot.

So he gave me a price for a Makita replacement and it nearly killed me. 220 quid is their list price and says they don't get any discount themselves from Makita.

Just seems such as waste really, now have an perfectly working 24 volt SDS with no batteries and a charger thats perfectly fine, but just may and get a new drill with batts and a charger. Crazy:confused:

whoa. go on ebay, buy a string of 20 cells for under ÂŁ20 and rebuild your battery. a bit of soldering and new battery for peanuts

Looked at doing this when they first went bad. Took the cell pack out to find they are bigger than AA batteries. Would love to know where to buy some from and give it a go. Its a 24 volt 3.3 Ah bettery pack.

ebay. cells are similar size to c cells, slightly smaller. for 24v you will need a string of 20 in series. they come ready connected to each other. 3.3Ah is quite a large Ah. you may have to settle for about 2Ah

Thats no good!

Found some 3.3 ah sub C size which have the tags on them. Searched ebay before didn't see any though.

Not recommended for Ni Mh only Nicad.

Would love a new drill but can't justify it yet, looking at the mighty 36 volt Bosch beast!

Have found the correct sized cells single for 3.50ish each so its still 70 quid to rebuild the pack, but can't gaurantee the little chip thingy on the battery will work properly
