A

ample current

One of my customers wants to join 10mm T&E to 10mm 3 core SWA and the joint will not be accesable after and probable damp conditions. Any one have a recomendation on what would be the best way to join the cables and earthing the armour.

Thanks

this sounds familiar does this....i guess the swa is for a garage feed yes.....
and this guy wants to joint it on a metal through box onto some 10mm CSA pvc flat?..lol...
i hate this....
its really bad practice and i`v come across it numerous times...hell, i even worked for a guy who used to do it religiously claiming `well thats how we did it at the council`..lol...
what a load of crud that was..lol...
really should be going from origin (C/U or dis board) to sub board...without any inaccessable joints or any other silliness like that....
really..lol..!!

I agree that in a new install then it's gota come straight from the CU (preference not regs), but sometimes you have to wee with the willy your given.

The SWA cable is already throught the foundations and into the cavity?
Walls not up yet?
I bet it's just buried in concrete and not in a sleeve?

A joint in a cavity is a bad idea

If it was my house I'd cut it off outside underground, join a piece of SWA on using a resin joint kit (make sure you mix the resin up where it's warm, not outside in 10 degrees) then into an adaptable box on the outside and thro the wall in T&E.

If i could pull the cable out and joint it outside i would, that was my first question to the client. I am told the cable is burried very deep so digging up may be a last resort.
I think im gonna have to joint it in an ip rated adaptable box using mf joints or crimps like johnboy suggested.
Thanks for all you suggestions.

Practical situations require reasonable and possible solutions
You no doubt, will have considered the perfect solutions given before posting, you have now decided on what your instincts must have told you in the first place
When perfection is not possible.its nice to have your own solution given confirmation at times, good on you :smile5:
