Just had a call for a quote for fitting a new shower and new CU.
Bear in mind im getting married tomorrow, he asked for a ball park figure without me even visiting to check bonding etc etc!!!!
Said roughly that a new CU would be around 350 - 400 including supply of Crabtree board, new tails & testing of all ccts, cert etc but price would depend on running new bonding etc if req!

He started laughing, told me a new board from screwfix was 79 quid and that i was a bit pricey..............this was a reccomendation and it peed me off a lil.
Considering i havent even seen the job or what is involved!!!!!! GRRRRRRR!

maybe i should do everything for free eh!

I told him to phone around and get back to me if he wants a quote and that if i was reccomended than it must be because i do a good job at a fair price!

I even stayed polite in conversation too!

I think I have mentioned this before you do get customers who will pay 20k for a car pay 15K to get a new bathroom in spend 10k on a kitchen because you have to pay for quality he says then its "HowMuch" I can buy a board for ÂŁ90 bucks yes I know but I have 2 legs and 2 arms but that bÂŁ%$^&* Rooney is stopping me getting picked for Man U I reply

but who wants to play for them anyway. when i die i want my ashes scattered on MUFC ground, while i'm haunting the ground, they won't win a match.

i got a quote call last week. she asks how much to change cu. i said it depends on many factors. number of ways, location, bonding, labour hours. she says o ur trying to rip me off, 2 other guys quoted over the phone, i said listen, im honest, im not quoting without seeing, i told her to get her cheaps to do it but have the phone handy to call the fire engine or doctor. cheeky bitch

Im in a small electrical business and the price sounded about right to me. Some people insist on taking liberties and as mentioned by many others you can have someone who knows what hes doing do the job tested and certificated or you can get 'roy rodgers' to do it.

Had the same a couple of weeks ago, went round to price up CU upgrade, all in ÂŁ360.. MK board, water bond, test, cert etc.

Then out comes matey with the screfix cataloge...arrgghh, same scenerio. Luckily had lots on so told that was my price and would only be happy supplying the materials.

Ended up doing the job for my original price, but took about about twice as long because he stood there watching me all morning, "why are you doing that/this etc.... nearly blew my top!!" Definately crossing that one off my repeat customers list...

Smiled when I read the "watching me all day" quote
We've all met those,it doesn't bother most people, but it does me

If they stand watching me too much,I stop, fold my arms and look at them until they get uncomfortable, the moment they move away,I start again,if they instantly stop and look.I put the tools down and it then becomes a war of attrition

In the end I'm not a vaudaville act, and they dont pay me to entertain

I make sure I quote for a PIR and CCU change separately. THen do the jobs a couple of weeks apart this gives the customer a chance to back out if remedials are going to cost lots. It also makes sure the CCU change is straight forward with no friday afternoon surprises to sort out
