Hi there everyone,
Im a qualified niceic sparks and i was just wondering how much i should charge for changing over 7 lights to standard pendants.... im based in the london area and the job is round the corner from me.

If i was changing 1 id probably charge between £50-65 labour but as its 7 what price do you think i should charge.. cost of materials is £45

Cheers

how long will the job take?

at least half a day.. i was thinking £20 a fitting plus materials dunno if that sounds to much

4 hours at your hourly rate plus materials. bobs your uncle

as he said really. the amount of hours it'll take you multiplied by your hourly rate, plus the materials. obviously with your mark-up on top.
not rocket science is it mate!

Demkap,do you base your hourly rate on how much you can achieve in that hour or on your qualifications and niceic membership? you being a qualified spark and all that.

How would you price to second fix a house that you didn't first fix ?

Price per fitting or day rate?

I'm not having a dig at you, I'm curious .... honest

Put together a pricing menu on a per-fitting basis and you'll always be unhappy. Add a socket? If it's in the next room and back-to-back with an existing one, or right next to an existing one that's a pretty quick job, especially if it's a stud wall. But if the socket's on the other side of the room from the nearest cable, and you have to go under the floor? Or if it's a solid floor? Can't have a fixed rate per socket for that lot.

Change a light fitting? Should be straightforward, but what if the ceiling is 20 foot high and you're fitting into a plaster rose? Or the fitting has to be put together, with three layers of dangly crystal thingies!
