Thought I would start another post, there are different ideas about what an electrician can and should do. What is his skill level in regard to other trades etc. I feel a proper time served Spark has done the same time as a junior Doctor and yet is on a lot less pay, I thought I would stick a poll up and hope you all chip in, well until it gets trashed of course lol, I reckon a time served electrician even at 21 years old should be on at least £15.00 an hour, what do you think? options in the poll

The problem is peoples perception,in the paper the other day there was a brief mention of a soldier who had been killed in Afghan,on the following page was a big headline'hero footballer injured' with a picture of the guy with a small cut over his eye! If Joe publics electric went off on Christmas day who would they rather have turn up,an undervalued electrician or one of our 'hero footballers?

Approved spark at the moment is JIB something like £14.50 but the non existant pay rises in the last 3/4 years should have brought that to well over £16.
Therefor electrician like you say £15 ish.

I think new spark 15, approved 17.50, technician 20 and thats basic rates at this moment in time, thats outside london, add 3 quid on all those inside IMO, and I wouldn't be unhappy if it was more, we are under paid IMHO.
