Don't your instruments have a 'Zero' facility? :-)

Yes of course they do, but they don't have a facility to constantly monitor the changes in resistance due to every tiny movement in a stack of adaptors between the meter terminals and the item under test.

my only gripe with the kits is simple.

no earth connection available so you will have to take it down for zs anyway

How on earth can that be a gripe with them, the lampholders only have L and N at them so theres no way they could have added and earth connection to them!

for teh vast majority of light fittings they are fine, even when youve taken the pendant cap off or a class 2 fitting apart you still have to hold 3 leads firmly in place and push a button on the tester unless you use a lightmate.

if you need any testing leads then have a look on cpc or rapid or rs, get some hirschmann 4mm fully insulated 4mm test connectors and proper flexible silicone test wire and assemble your own. would not buy those 7.99 maplin crocodiles in poundland for a pound...

lightmates - what are they for? you cant test R1+R2 or Ze with them? no earth at the end of pendant drops...

They are for making a reliable connection to the live and neutral at light fittings, leaving you two hands free to make a reliable earth connection and operate the tester.
Also they make testing the polarity of ES lamp holders a little easier as you aren't trying to hold a probe on the centre sprung contact.

Also quite useful for fault finding and safe isolation without taking light fittings down.

I'd say a MUST HAVE for anyone doing domestic installs, CU changes and EICR's

I got a set and love them
but then being 300 years old with shakey hands it makes life easier
however I noticed several people quoted Ebay
check the prices in the local wholesalers, I bought them for muchless than advertised on ebay
it seems to be set up for the cant be bothered to get of the arse merchants and is not always cheaper
I was looking for a cordless SDS drill bought it for 200 pounds less than eblag BEST price from a local tool specialist
I have even seen secondhand stuff on eblag for more money than new, adn I think some sellers are listing stuff they dont own, adn then when its sold going and purchasing and adding a mark up
it used to be called capitalism i think
right I am off to take my pill and rub polish on my bull whip !
