hi hope someone can help I am in the middle of a kitchen remodel and the fitters have a problem with my wiring. We are have a oven and a fitted microwave both needing a 16 amp Rcd supply. The old cooker is on its own but not rcd but that not a problem I have a spare mcb in the consumer unit. The problem is with the microwave. I have a double socket that can be change to a cooker switch with a single socket which is rcd protected. Would this be ok or do I need to put in a separate supply for it. Hope someone can help.

what rating of MCB is the cooker on at present?

Hi Perry, welcome to the forum. I think its fair to say that if your kitchen fitters have a problem with you wiring, then you should really be asking for a competent electrician look at this issue. I would suggest, from what you've said, there is a solution, but one solved by an electrician.

OK, so a 32A supply. as long as the cable is OK ( usually 6.0mm), then you can supply from a 32A RCD or RCBO to the orifinal cooker isolator. then replace the cooker outlet with a dual outlet. one for cooker and one for M/Wave.

no, you keep the existing single 6.0mm cable from the switch.a 32A supply is capable of handling both 16A loads as with diversity applied, likelihood is that both together will not pull more than 25A. then from the dual outlet feed each appliance .

Kitchen fitters are rarely correct ask them where they got their electrical knowledge from or the ebst bet it probably to get in your own electrician, it'll save time and hassle

Perry..

This stuff is not to be messed with, the equipment you are attempting to fit is all high power consuming equipment and incorrect installation, will result in a fire. This work should only be carried out by a competent and suitably qualified and certified person. It's clear your kitchen fitter don't have a clue! Because their kitchen fitters with single figure IQ's! I'm sure there is someone local on this forum who would be able to carry out the work.
