I'll be in the minority then. I prefer to go horizontal between outlets in the kitchen, although it depends what circuits etc are going in, and the distances between them. I think the idea of doing vertical drop to vertical drop when outlets on same circuit are no more than a foot apart is a little crazy. The vertical drops are surely the ones that are more likely to be drilled, especially when wall units and shelves go in?

Best laugh I had a few years ago involved a kitchen, neighbour was a sparks at a hospital and made out he was one of the main men always going on how he was very important at work etc anyway I was working at another hospital and found out he was just an ordinary sparks like me, anyway he adds 2 new sockets in his kitchen, there was one double at either end with the leg coming out of one up wall across in ceiling and down to other so he puts 2 twins in between dissconnects leg going up and goes horizontal between sockets, following weekend his wife asks for a rack on wall between sockets, out comes drill and BANG daft sod only drilled through the cable he fitted the week before.

Yeah I'm thinking of using this new found horizontal safe zone to my advantage. Makes things easier for sure although it's going to feel wrong for some time to come. Until they revise the safe zones again?!
