Am I correct in saying any work on the Kitchen ring whether serving another room on the circuit is notifiyable under Part P. The work involves adding sockets in a bedroom above the kitchen which is served by the kitchen ring.

Actually that is incorrect.

The work is not IN a special location, therefore, what you are proposing to do is not notifiable.

If you were physically working on the circuits in the kitchen, then it would.

I thought it (part P doc) was worded along the lines of

"work is notifiable if it involves the installation of a new circuit or the extension of a circuit in a kitchen or any other special location, or is associated with a special location"

Meaning if it serves a special location aswel as another non special location, you will need to notify is extending the circuit.
Depends on your take of the wording I suppose.

That's right

Surely this work is not notifiable.

What about all the houses with one ring main?
Feeding the kitchen, bedrooms, dining room & lounge

So if you do work in the lounge or bedrooms you have to notify it?

I don't think so.

Isnt a dinning room considered to be about 1.5 m from kitchen (without checking). for open plan situations.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

In open plan areas the zone of a kitchen may be considered to extend from the edge of the sink to a distance of 3m or to a nearer dividing wall.

Whether it's a minor works cert or EIC will depend on the extent of the work. But remember, just because it's a minor works, it doesn't necessarily follow that it won't be notifiable. Minor works in a special location are still notifiable.

Hmmm, if we are really looking into this, it says kitchens and special locations, and associated with special installations

So, where do we stand now :D

So its the "Associated with" part that baffles me... do they mean by that, part of the same cicuit to a kitchen or special location?

If they do then i should be notifying alot of work ive done in bedrooms, and lounges.

I know the EG is only a guide but if a kitchen is regarded as a special location and it is open plan the dinning area is associated with the kitchen but the EG suggests that it is not.

so, the EG suggests that anything beyond 3m from the sink or a nearer wall is not the kitchen thus not a special location.

Tats the way I read it and as far as I can see most others including the EG.

another paradox for the list:rolleyes:
