Thanks for all of the replies (and for clarifying / confirming my understanding of the zones). I guess I'll be getting him to buy me a beer for being right and have some extra cable left over after the jobs done!!
 
As far as the zones say from the reverse side of a wall extending to the room you are fitting a socket etc... in, is it the case that the zone only extends to the reverse of the wall if said wall is 100mm thick or less ??

that's my interpretation.
 
minimum 100mm from work surface 150mm from corners and ceilings well if used common sense and think about 150mm from floors, I think you would be ripping off alot of skirting board to find faults
 
Next question (lol) ..... is there a regulation how far away from a sink / draining board a socket has to be as I can't find anything within the OSG - something like bathroom zones?
