Fed up with not having a 'no trip' loop test function on my KT62 multitester I decided to upgrade to a KT63.
I was eager to play with my new toy today but ended up very disapointed. It wouldn't perform the loop test, presumably because it's a TT system with a ZE around 800ohms and the KT63 only measures upto 500ohms!
Am I missing something here or is this tester useless for such tests?

@800ohms, your 1st concern should be to get a decent Ra by redoing the rod. i'd expect 800 from a length of wet string. get it down to below 100, and your mft will then work fine.

Not easy I'm afraid. The property is stuck right on the edge of a rocky cliff, it doesn't matter where you stick the rod, a decent reading seems impossible! Any suggestions?

Did I mention 'rocky'? I struggled to get a single 1meter rod in anywhere! The best reading was found by sticking the rod in almost horizontally into the limited 'top soil' but this can't be a permanent fixture as the 'top soil' is being constantly eroded.

Is it worth bothering, the house might be gone soon in this weather! :38:

I've got a link somewhere to Earthing methods, but can't find it!
Eng54's your man for this.

I'm in the process of attempting to get a new supply cable to the property and hopefully use suppliers earth. This could take some time though...and yes, the property may well be in the sea by then! :) I don't fancy digging trenches for earth mesh/tape etc, I still don't think they'll be very effective anyway because of the geology of the place. I'm fine with 800ohms, every circuit is RCBO, I'm just a tad annoyed that the new tester is useless in this scenario!
