Hey guys
can anyone tell me if the KT64DL tester can perform 2 wire loop tests? If so can they do this in 'no trip' mode?
thanks

Probably would if I bought one. But if I had the tester already I wouldn't need to ask..
looked on line and can't find anywhere that specifically states it, so I guess it doesn't. But thought I'd ask here to check.

Thanks for for being so helpful

Yes it will perform 2 wire loop test however it is conducted at a high current so it will likely cause an RCD to operate.

At this point in time, only Megger offer a 2 wire low current loop test.

I only asked if you had a manual, you would be surprised how many people buy something and can't be bothered to read the instructions, no need for the the sarky comments

hi. Can you please confirm this as I can't see anywhere online that says it and I've spoken to someone who owns one and doesn't seem to think it can.. But I obviously believe test-meter over some old guy in a wholesalers.
basically Id like to know can it do a loop test without a neutral? High current is fine.
Many thanks

I think Kewtech are the people who will know, why don't you give them a ring? 01522 546888 (Technical Support).

On their old KT45 dedicated loop tester, you could (from the KT45 manual):

If you wish to measure the Phase-Neutral loop impedance, then same procedure should be followed except the earth clip should be connected to the neutral of the system i.e. the same point as the black neutral probe.

If the system has no neutral then you must connect the black neutral probe to the earth i.e. same point as the green earth clip. This will only work if there is no RCD in this type of system."

However, the KT64 MFT uses a slighly different method for Line-Neutral impedance (from the KT64 manual):

"Measurement of Line – Neutral Loop Impedance and PSC:
Press the Mode Switch (F1) and select L-N/L-L or PSC. Connect the blue N lead of the ACC065 to the neutral of the distribution board, the brown L lead to one line of the distribution board. (See Fig.24)."

So that truely is "2 wire" rather than "3 wires going to 2 points" like on the old KT45.

So it might be that Kewtech have taken a retrograde step, and 2 point L-E loop test (when no N is available) is no longer possible.

But I suspect only they will be able to tell you (unless someone's got one and is willing to try).

Give em a buzz :)

Just to close this off (since the OP didn't seem to be bothered, or if he was, didn't feel bothered to let the rest of us know...) :)

Just spoken to a very helpful bloke at Kewtech.

Yes, you can do a 2-wire high current L to E loop test with the KT64/65, without there being a N present. Note this is high current, so it WILL trip an RCD (if present). It will do L-L, L-N and L-E two-wire tests. (It will also do a "better than average" 3-wire low current ("anti-trip") test, they claim.)

Hope this is helpful. :)

Absolutely correct they hold water, shrouds are totally unnecessary. 20s is 24mm spanner, 20 large is 30mm spanner.
