Hi guys very long time reader but don't post often but hey ho,

anyways bit of a background fully qualified time served sparks ( have to add to avoid Electrical Trainee questions being thrown at me at all angles haha!)
2330 2 & 3, nvq 3, 17th, 2391, pat, solar pv,

anyway I have a private coming up whereby my uncle is getting a dunster cabin installed in his garden as he going to work from home, electrically I'm fine with the install planned but as I'm not a member of a scam I rang them to see how much it would be to sign off and what the process would be eg inspection after 1st fix and test on completion but they said aslong as someone registered completes a pir (not eicr) then. That will suffice, I questioned him (the building control inspector) on the fact that as its a new install he surely needs a install cert but no he said that a 'pir' would be fine.
Should I get this in writing or ring back and try to speak to someone else?

Ps it's Bedfordshire council in the shefford area.

any feedback would be welcome!
Thanks guys

But what would happen if say, I did fill out a eicr and then they required a install cert on behalf of a scam once everything was finished?
Sorry I just want to cover my backside
Thanks for your replies people Its much appreciated :)

Confirm in writing with them what they have said is what you are going to do so that there is a much lower chance of comeback.

Last time I met a building control person on site he wanted to know which scheme I belonged to and was I going to register the job with them and would I send them the first page of the EIC. Then we had a talk about the worthlessness of Part P.

You don't need to be a member of one of the associations to fill in an EIC. Being a member just makes the normal process of notifying the LABC cheaper and easier. if your LABC is happy to take an EICR and you are competent, then do that and complete the EIC and give a copy to your Uncle. Of course the risk is if some other shirt at the LABC has a different opinion when they get the paperwork and questions your competency.

The thing is If they don't like the paper work what will they do?

charge you for sending someone round to do a ECIR ????????? :rolleyes4:

I agree, but I would add "If I do not hear from you within the next fourteen days I shall assume that this meets with your full approval and that you require nothing else from me".

Send it by Recorded Delivery (so you know that somebody signed for it at their end) and keep a copy on file.

THAT should cover your arse!!!

Just an addition to my post (#10) you may prefer to deliver your letter by hand - rather than traipsing to the Post Office - and if you do this make sure you get a receipt for it. One of their Compliment Slips will do with a signature and name of the person you handed your letter to and the date you handed it in will suffice.

Cheers guys I do appreciate all the feedback and want to do it by the book as you can imagine, it's crazy how each labc can differ from each other, I done a rewire off the kings road in Fulham 6 months ago and Hammersmith and Fulham council charged the earth to sign off although luckily the owners were a tiny bit well off! Anyway looks like joining a scam will be beneficial if these jobs keep coming up,

thanks again for all the feedback

tommy.

as has been said here already...
they`v said what they will accept....so just install, inspection + test....send in the relevent paperwork (in this case an EICR)...they said it....oh, and do get the name of the person you spoke to wont you...just in case they start getting a bit queer over it....

crack on i`d say..

sigh , you dont have to be in any scheme to issue any cert.
give the building inspector what he asks for and move on , your cert will just sit in a corner of a council office with a million other pointless notifications lol.

I checked with my labc and they want to see the first fix and then second, then send another spark around to test it. All for 250. This is a full house rewire. All because I'm not part p. slapping someone doesn't always get you somewhere haha
