The only thing I'm going to say on this thread is, Look at what you have to thank socialism for-
Universal education for every child free at the point of delivery.
Healthcare for all free at the point of delivery.
Legislation which governs the way an employer can treat their employees.
A standard working week.
The right to holidays.
Laws which govern how and when your child can be employed and the conditions they will be employed in.
Health & safety legislation
Minimum wage
I could go on but I won't. Now fair enough, some of those things are only relevant if your employed however, they all have benefited us all at some point in our lives.
Now let's look at what we have to thank Thatcherism for.
Division
Destruction of communities.
The police force being used as her private army.
The killing of several hundred young men on both sides during the Falklands conflict which she knew was coming but did nothing to avoid.
The destruction of our industry.
The sale of assets which you and I owned by virtue of our taxes.
Squandering of the money generated by north sea oil.
The UK being reduced to a betting shop style economy which led inexorably to the financial crisis of 2007/8. (caused by the banks not the government before any of the clowns start blowing that horn)
Once again, I could go on but I won't.
I'm done here.

So brown selling gold great what socialist party are you talking about
Tony Blair and wife property speculating unfortunately my memory is not as good as yours but Labour is as bad as the Tories
So I can't think of a socialist party ,do you mean old Labour

Start living now not in the 30's and 40's let's talk about the last ten years now what is Labour doing now stop banging on about healthcare etc that party is nothing like what they are now nothing

I've always described politics like this: Any *sensible* management of the western capitalist system will always end up with more or less the same size cake for the ingredients available. Politics is about who is holding the cake slice - sometimes you get a bigger bit, sometimes smaller, but it's still the same cake.

well the last 5 years hasn't achieved anything has it? the NHS has been dismembered.

The post office sold for 3 billion under value, the Europeans making decisions about our future because Cameron vetoed it without permission from parliament, we are now looking at the decision making table from outside the window, 25 new taxes invented, 300,000 more people in poverty using food banks, more money being borrowed today than anytime in the 13 years of the new labour government, infact billions more, yet hardly mentioned by the media, tory MPs abusing police officers, passport control absolutely miles behind with a huge waiting time due to lack of civil servants because of tory cuts, the building for schools project abandoned due to cuts, Libraries closing due to cuts, costs to see your GP, tax breaks for millionaires, knight hoods for all the tory supporters, mistreatment of armed forces personel, teachers and firemen striking due to abuse of their pensions.

All politicians are ----ers, the tories the biggest by far.

Tony blair and mo mowlam had the courage to sit down and do a peace deal with gerry adams and martin mcguinness. It was labours impartiality that gave irish nationalists the courqge to view them as honest brokers rather than adversaries, and although there was 69 bombs in northern ireland last year the good friday agreement is still in place

Do you actually know who started the dialogue with the ira?

I bet you don't

It was John Major

Right you lot have convinced me, I will vote Conservative like all you will at the next General election, I will turn in my Membership to the Labour party and change the curtains to Blue instead of red

I know you're being sarcastic but I would rather travel to the Islamic State and volunteer to have my head hacked off with a bit of rusty barbed wire.

Brown selling the gold is nothing to do with him being socialist or not as it was sold to pay for investing in the things that 17 years of tory rule had all but destroyed. They (New Labour) made a pledge not to alter budgets plans for the 1st two terms of their parliament while still investing millions in the NHS/Eduction. The only way they could do this while still keeping their promises was to sell off gold and use PFI ect. Personally I would rather they had taxed us a few pence in the pound more and paid for it all that way.

When we here labour detractors talk about their last 3 terms in office all we hear about is 1. Illegal wars (Tories supported it and they traditionally love a war). 2. Selling off the gold 3. The spending in the last few years of government.
We don't hear about brand new hospitals that have been built up and down the country. No mention of the huge refurb program for other hospitals.....all of this has led to people not waiting a whole 18 months (At the end of tory rule) to see a consultant.
We also don't hear about the huge reduction in class sizes - Effected by more schools being built up and down the country and the refurb of old stock.....see a pattern ?
Crime fell year on year - Nope no mention of that either.
They also get blamed for the crash - even though it was a tory ideology and the continuing of their free market light touch regulation that allowed it to happen in this country....same for the USA - they followed the same principals and look where they are. BTW I see the current government have done loads to make sure that type of thing never happens again.......Oh **** no they must have forgotten already.
Don't get me wrong I wish labour had done a ton of the stuff they did differently and just done what old labour did which was be up front about tax and the need for it. The thing is we all want these services but we don't want to pay for them through tax...it's madness to think that a single user can get a better deal from the private sector for a service than they would if paying for that service through taxation......
Everybody slags off the NHS and yet the majority of us wouldn't even be here without them. Same for schools too...slag them off along with the teachers ect but in general they taught you to read/write and add up ffs.
I genuinely fear another tory led 5 years.....and if scotland do get indi then I fear a tory government for a generation probably until its too late to save anything this time.
