Lampholder with Cord Grip

Hi

Wonder if anyone could be kind enough to give me some advice. I have bought a BG Lampholder from Screwfix. I was looking specifically for one that had a cord grip. The one I have is advertised as a integral cord grip but I was expecting the cord to be hand tightened in some way. I just can't see it. All I see is basically just a hole at the top that the cord goes through. Quite slack at that. I know that after I wire the terminals I tuck the blue and brown under the cable restraints. I don't if I am getting cable restraint and cord grip mixed up but I was definitely expecting the hole at the top to grip the cord. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks very much

put a cable tie round the cord, inside the holder.

Thanks telectrix, was thinking of some makeshift thing like that to make it safe but was still wondering if I am missing something with this lampholder I have bought

Think the "cord grip part" is initiated when you screw the top of the holder on. IE it grips the cord, not very well described imo.

Can you show a pic of it with the top dome cover removed, a cable tie does not provide cord restraint.

You usually have the "bits" in the lamp holder which I call the ears that once the cable is terminated then go under to take the strain before the cap is screwed down.

As an apprentice for being naughty I was locked in a shed for a week with thousands of these............. to connect up.

A cable tie, properly located, will provide restraint...
This lass I met in Spain last year had a whole selection of them in her handbag, and the inventiveness to deploy them...

Cable tie is not perfect but substantially better than nothing.

I've used it myself on many an occasion to good effect.

Pete has covered it, the cap is the cord grip. Sometimes there are the round crocodile grips in a lamp holder but needs more space than is usually available.

That is fine, the way the wires are looped under the ridges provides the cord restraint.

you need a strong cord. this also allows for pulldown light.

Ahhhh but you are missing the cord that takes the weight and helps pull the light back upwards. Fitted one for my Mum years ago.
