After 6 years working in the highways electrical sector i can catergorically state the is no way to locate faulty cable joints without a sh*t load of digging up at some point.

however getting your hands on a signal generator and cat scanner wil dramatically speed up the fault finding.
thats why the dno's blow the fault clear lol

yes we uses a company to trace fauts on sub mains charge a grand a day but find the fault, this may be a bit expensive for this situation :) looks like it's time to get the shove out

I recently had to trace a cable fault on two under ground cables and borrowed an excellent bit of kit.
Bicotest LEXXI T810 cable fault locator using time domain reflectometry it showed the faults on both cables and gave the distance.[ElectriciansForums.net] Lamppost fault finding !

Once we found the cable run it was a matter of measuring and then exposing the cable ! It was summer so not too bad !

A perfect example of how ''NOT'' to install buried cables!! I'd be surprised if this was the first incidence of these two cables developing faults...

i was thinking the same lol

all laid out on a nice bed of sharp stones and crushed tarmac........

im sure that cable will pass its sheath test with flying colours ! ;-)
