Alright lads,

I often get customers complaining of 'bulbs blowing' far too often.

As far as I know it can be a case of:

Poor quality lamps. Ie. tesco, homebase...

Over voltage - proximity to supply transformer.. Ie. 250v at service head

Transients - ie. the supplier trying to keep a steady clean supply, not always possible....

Can anybody shed any more light on this?

Bulbs grow in the garden!!!

Haha, I like it and I agree, but try going into Asda and asking a member of staff for a lamp and then seeing the look of confusion on the spotty little kid's face when he brings you one and your reply is "No, I asked for a lamp, not a lamp". :D

Not with the bulb blown:ciappa:

also add overheating in enclosed fittings..........but 99% of the time it's rubbish lamps.

It's also because most (all?) of them are made abroad and specc'd for 220-230V. Over here we routinely still have 240V and upwards. Low quality manufacture means they blow even quicker. Whatever they're called ...

swann ( or edison if you're a yank ) invented the electric light bulb, to avoid confusion with the ones that grow in the ground, he made the casing from glass so that all could see inside and know that they would be plugging in a device that would, when energised, give out light, as opposed to daffodils and tulips which only give out flowers. little did he know how big a part his invention would later play in the growing of waccy baccy from little seeds ( not bulbs ).
