just being nosy really and wondered what you use. old habits and all I have the laser but inside the case is chalk line :) and when i open the case the chalk comes out. if its laser what you using?

Laser, can set it up pretty fast and have no chalk lines left behind to clean up.
And when the laser is out of align there is no marks behind when adjusted, I have seen some places where it looks like a noughts and crosses game played over and over!

Use a dewalt laser now.

Kept getting moaned at because of the chalk lines left behind.

The chalk line does get an outing now & again, for old times sake.

I would say both have their place, but I would probably use them for different things. I would only really get the laser out when the tape measure, long level, and chalk line have been out beforehand and been limited.
Never really have a problem with complaints about chalk marks as I rub off excess chalk before leaving the job, and only use it when I know it's going to get decorated after.

Got a Dewalt Laser Level, DW087. Great piece of kit that may be a little overkill for sparking. Asked a few joiners/stud work guys/ceiling men about them when I was looking for one and they all said the Dewalt. Newer model out now, no idea what's improved on it.

Chalk Line still is my tool kit, gets the very odd outing here and there
