I have a Leica. It has an up and down dot as well as cross lines. The dots are handy for measuring on the floor and translating to the ceiling.

Definitely, I wouldn't be without it, perfect for downlights, setting box heights, vertical and horizontal its so easy, but being red difficult in bright sun so may invest in a 'green' line laser!
Don't use string like some of the dinosaurs on here.
