Afternoon All,

Fitted a few Hot Tub supplies in the past on PME systems with the need to bang in an earth rod.

Just been asked to install an outdoor socket which is intended to plug in a Lazy Spa. PME, and also has purpose built decking. I personally don't see much issue with putting in the socket and no need for an Earth Rod or dedicated supply. My colleague disagrees and now second guessing myself.

Any advice appreciated

In one sense, you're not 'installing' a hot tub, just a socket - the rest after that is an appliance.

Some of the Lazy Spa manuals seem to require bonding to their pump if you look on their site - though most of their manuals are just US versions or poorly converted versions of.

There have been some posts on here fairly recently discussing the pros and cons, etc.

If it comes with a plug, then I'd say it's fine to just plug and play, as long as any manufacturers instructions have been followed....(with usual requirements for an outdoor socket)

If you're supplying power to it via cabling that you install, then the design needs more careful thought. There's a good David Savery video on youtube which discusses (with some profanity) the various risks that can be involved...

Got called last week by a chap who was having a hot tub fitted but the suppliers required an EICR on the existing point that had been previously installed by somebody else. It was connected to a TN-C-S system. In the instructions provided by the Hot Tub suppliers it was quite clear that they wanted it connected to a TT system. I duly altered the set up and provided the necessary certification.
