One for the memory bank! Any ideas when lead "insulated" twin and earth was used? Came across loads of it today left in situ possibly following several rewires..

same goes for motors...if i remember you correctly Tony....In the 1990’s I redirected a couple of 0.3 PILCSWA cables installed in the 1930’s, they are still in uses to this day.
The IR tests came in at <1MÎŹ. This is a long time ago, and replacement PVC cables would then have cost ÂŁ25K plus the cost of a cable gang.
So what to do?
This is something no longer in the regs and it should be!
Total leakage Ph→Ph or Ph→E is not to exceed 1/10,000[SUP]th[/SUP] of the circuit FLC.
So the circuit is fused at 300A which we use as FLC
300/10000 = 0.03A
A bit of jigging Ohms law about based on our plant voltage of 550Vgives 18.3KÎŹ as minimum IR value.
As I said, it’s still in use today. How many of you would have condemned the cable?
After about a year in service quite heavily loaded I tested it again >5MÎŹ.
Pvc is water proof but rubber is not. ...rodents chew through both in a matter of days....I m happy to sleeve at terminations.
Since when?Pvc is water proof but rubber is not. ...

well a lot of council housing stock that went up in the 50s/60s used conduit...OK Glenn perhaps it would be fairer to say - 'conduit started losing ground to other systems'?
i think this birdy`s just gone down faster than a burst balloon Tony...
You love it really
