Just fitted 7 LED downlights and all working okay but want to replace the switch with a dimmer.

Existing switch has the 2 browns in a block then at the top L1 = Black L2 = grey and the bottom L1 = Grey and L2 black but the dimmer just has one L1 and L2. Do I just pair the L1s and L2s together ?

Sounds like your existing switch is an intermediate. Is there more than two switches controlling thee lamps?
If so, you may struggle to find a dimmer to replace the switch in question, but you have much better chance of finding one that will replace either of two of the other switches.

Yes 2 switches

Can you suggest an LED dimmer switch that is suitable

That is an intermediate switch so there will be at least 3 switches. Are the other switches controlling the light also on single switch plates? If they are on plates with other switches things can get more tricky. A master and slaves type dimmer system is likely to work best here.

As Freddo has said above, that's an intermediate switch, which will be wired with two other two way switches.
Your dimmer switch is a two way version, so that can bbe used to replace either of the two other switches.
An 'ordinary' dimmer switch cannot be used in place of an intermediate switch. It would need two dimmers, one in the black wire and one in the grey.
