Led tape driver

Hello,
Does anyone know of a Driver for led tape that can adjust the brightness on the driver itself by turning a screw etc ?
Just need something I can adjust to the correct level and then leave behind a panel and just switch off and on with a lightswitch .

They’re all electronic now with a small remote control.

I take it, if you dim using the remote, it just comes back on full bright again?

A variable resistor wired in series into the - of the output of the driver before the tape? But that might affect how the driver operates.


Lay the tape in aluminium channel and fit an opaque cover over it.

Assuming 12V LED tape (and I'm assuming single colour), you could either buy a 12V driver with variable voltage or PWM capability (I think Meanwell do them) or if you have the 12V driver already, then you could use an LED strip dimmer module like below. Nearly all these things seem to be Chinese products, so you take your chances. Don't know that I'd be hiding it behind a flammable panel .
If you search hard enough you might find similar from a reputable source?

This might be of interest, and describes PWM a bit: (not suggesting you need the expense of this, the smaller PWM modules would do just as well)

This range of drivers should do it, wired to a 100k potentiometer to adjust the brightness. You would need to select a high enough wattage driver for the total wattage of your LED strip(s).

Many thanks ! That seems perfect .
It’s for a media wall that’s painted Matt black so I’m unsure of the brightness required , I’ve only ever fitted led tape under kitchen units before so had no need to dim them. This will be switched at the lightswitch so I was worried any remote dimmer would lose its setting when unpowered.
This is the exact solution I was after , where I can adjust it till the customer is happy and then it’s just left alone .

That looks really good.
I’m putting tape in the 45 degree profile that’ll face the back of each alcove. I ran the wires before it was skimmed . I’ll upload a photo when it’s finished as it’s hard to describe .

We have nearly 300m of this crap being installed at the moment, colour and brightness consistency across the 12 zones was a big concern.

We were advised by the manufacturer that anything over 8m will start to fade at the end of the tape as the voltage drops.

As a result we have run a feed every 5m back to the driver to ensure consistency within each zone and then each zone is individually dimmed to ballance the zones.

Personally I don't think it would be that noticeable but the customer is insistent.

Assuming you're using a dimmable tape/driver then why not use a dimmer?

Most of the 12V power supplies you can get have a trimmer on them for adjusting the voltage, not sure how far the range is though.

I don’t envy you fighting with 300m of it !
I’ve never seen that type of dimmer before but I much prefer it to the Mickey Mouse remote ones. Biggest hassle with all this stuff is finding brands you trust . Never heard of most of them and if you find something decent then it’s vanished next time you look.
