leds glowing

hi guys, can some one give me some information on a problem i came across.
i have a multicore swa cable switcing on pier lights and garden lights, however when the pier lights are on one of the garden lights starts to glow. i checked voltage at light and it is receiving 40 volts, and what makes it even stranger is that the other garden light is receiving 40 volts also but not glowing.
they are gu10 leds. the armour of cable is not connected outside but maybe connected ar the switch,
hope some one can help i was told that if i earth the light it will go away but i think it is earthed

Don't understand that you don't know if it is earthed or not?

Have you got any other cables running parallel with the SWA cable?
This will give you induced voltage, you need to separate the cables and see if that makes a difference

i just have two sitch wires one for piers and one for garden, one neutral and earth, how do ou mean seperate, just within the j box. all the connection are right beside each other would this be causing it

What voltage should the lights be are they mains or low voltage

ok first thing is do a Zs on the lights and see if you get a good reading inline with BS7671.

Didn't see the earth point on the OP

Switch off and do full test on cable find out why your only getting 40v at lights

i am getting 230 when the light is switched on my problem is when they are off and the pier lights are on the receive 40 volts and glow

Have you checked for borrowed nuetrals induced voltage maybe try switching other breakers off and see if voltage disappears this will point you in right direction
